Fireworks are back!! There are some changes from previous
years, and before you sign up to work, there are some important things
that you need to know.
The primary location this year is Boom City - a fireworks mall at
164th Ave. and 29th St. across from IHOP. Within the mall, there are 3
separate stands: Western, Great Grizzly and Phantom. The schedules
for the site are set up as 4 separate schedules: (1) mall-wide staffing
(supervisory, night security, and set-up/tear-down positions), (2 - 4)
stand staffing (stand volunteer and cashier positions). People need to
be aware of which stand they are signing up for so that they show up to
the right stand
within the mall.
We also have the opportunity to do flagging and bagging
at the Bomber Brother's stand on 164th Ave. and 18th St. by
Big Al's. So this is a separate schedule as well.
You must sign up for a shift on the 4th before you can
sign up for any other shifts. Once the 4th is full, you
must sign up for the 3rd. Once the 3rd is full, you must
sign up for the 2nd. Once the 2nd is full, you must sign up
for the 5th.
There is a limit of 4 shifts per student account.
On June 8th, any remaining shifts will be available on a
first come/first serve basis.
All student volunteers need to be 16+ years old and need
to have a government-issued photo ID on them at all times
during their shift. This means a state ID, driver's
permit, driver's license, passport, etc. Student ID is not
acceptable. The only exception to this age requirement
is for the laborer positions on the Mall Staffing schedule
on June 26 and July 5 -- 14 and 15 year olds can work these
shifts as the stand is not open for business on these days,
it is purely tear-down and setup. However, it is very
physical work involving loading and unloading boxes of
fireworks weighing up to 50 pounds off/on semi-truck
trailers. So any students signing up for these shifts
MUST be physically capable of doing this work, if they are
not they will be sent home and any future shifts scheduled
for their account may be impacted.
It is very important that everyone read the informational
flyer and the job descriptions before signing up for a
shift. Some rules have changed this year.
Volunteers especially need to be familiar with the
consequences of not showing up for a shift.

absolutely no penalty if you were not available to work when
called. If you are interested in being on the on-call
